The Process of Creating your Wedding Bands

This is what you can expect when we work together on your wedding band project:

  • An initial consultation; discuss your ideas , budget and timeframe. All options are discussed.

  • I source necessary stones (for example diamond/diamonds) and create a design to show you, as well as the price quote.

  • Second consultation; you come to look at the design. We discuss the details as well as timeline.

  • Upon approval of the design, I ask for a 50% deposit and then commence with manufacturing of the ring.

  • I contact you once the ring is 100% perfectly complete, where we arrange a time for you to come and collect it. The final balance is then paid.

  • I communicate well throughout the process.

Wedding bands are a very personal item of jewellery. For many people, this will be the only piece of jewellery that they ever wear. This is particularly true for a lot of men. The wedding band is also a symbol of unification which will be worn for a lifetime.

For these reasons, I am proud to be able to design and manufacture wedding bands which are unique and personal. I base every wedding band I create on the needs, desires and personalities of my clients. In the same way that each person is unique, so too should their symbol of love and unity be special and meaningful.

Some people prefer a simple, clean and uncomplicated design. Others prefer the ring design to reflect aspects of their individuality. I specialize in helping bring out in a wedding band exactly what will suit you and help you to express your commitment.

The process unfolds like this. We sit down and discuss your ideas. I help you to decide on the practicality and feasibility of your ideas. If you are struggling to come up with ideas, I can help direct you in this regard. We discuss timeline, budget, metal choices, and any other factors pertaining to the process. I create bands in any karat of gold, yellow and white, as well as palladium and platinum. I am also proud to annouce that after many hours of dedication to learning the art of Mokume Gane, I now offer wedding bands in this age-old traditional Japanese style of metal preparation and forging.

After narrowing down ideas for the design, I estimate the cost of the project. Upon approval, I will then design your bands and submit a design to you for approval. Changes and tweaks to the design can be made before we go ahead and create anything. After we have decided on the final design, I then go ahead and produce a prototype of the ring in what's referred to as a "wax model". It is simply a scale model of the ring design carved out of a wax-like modelling polymer. This will give you a tangible feel for the design and how the ring will turn out once we proceed to the manufacturing stage.

After the wax model has been seen, and there are no further changes required, I will then proceed to create the ring in the predetermined metal of choice. This is where the real work of a goldsmith takes place. I do everything myself, from designing the rings to presenting them to you. All work is performed here in my studio.

Once I am satisfied with the end result, I contact you to come in and see the finished ring(s).

The process can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 weeks depending on the delivery date you require, or the complexity in design. This is always a point for discussion so that you know exactly what timeline you can expect.
